I feel sad to write this review because from past reviews I want to believe it was a bad day at the kitchen.... The food was not exciting as we hoped and two of our dishes were so salty, I barely finalized it. The service was top notch though and the fine dining atmosphere was most definitely there. Great place, I can see the potential, but didn't make it up to the hype for us.

Really wanted to absolutely love Oku, and there are some truly standout dishes throughout the menu (the "prawn toast" was superb!) as well as a great selection of sake. Service was very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, but, our meal in total took just over four hours to complete. It felt like our tasting menu got lost in the kitchen flow somewhere in the middle and the pace really affected the enjoyment and enthusiasm. Tables sitting over an hour after us had effectively caught up by the end of the evening. Hoping it was just an off evening.

We had a great dinner here. The food is excellent, light and tasteful. The service is very attentive, friendly, and relaxed. Together with the menue the is an appetizers, mise en bouche, pre-dessert and mignardises. So even the 4-course menu is a lot! We especially recommend the bao buns! The cheesecake is very fluffy and delicious and the chocolate mousse is made with a good black chocolate.

This was one of the most memorable evenings we have ever experienced. The food was absolutely incredible and every course got better and better. The staff was very warm and friendly and very knowledgeable and was very enthusiastic about their food. This is a very high recommendation from us.
The Food was EXCEPTIONAL, I like fancy dining and have been to some of our top restaurants in Cape Town, and this has been the most beautiful, thoughtful experience I have ever had.All the ingredients were top quality, the staff was amazing, they did not hover. There was a good tempo to each course coming out. They substituted pork items with tofu for me.The cocktails were delicious. We went for the 11 course restaurant week special and had 14 courses! 14!!! An extra starter, a pre-dessert of wasabi ice cream and Apple Crisp, and with our coffee we received 3 little goodies of Fudge, Marshmallow and Meringue.I highly recommend this restaurant.I cannot rave enough about it.I forgot to take a picture of our Complementary Starter. This trumps La Colombe for me by FAR
